About Alice and Our Family Legacy

Katsusaburo & Michi Tamura Bio

K and his family farmed the Hood River valley orchard until the war interned the family in various locations from California to Idaho. K had many friends in the valley and eventually K, Michi, George & Hisako, Harry and Oscar returned to the valley. Additional orchards were purchased for each son and they each raised their own families in the valley.

George & Hisako Tamura Bio
George and Hisako met by chance at a picnic at Payette Lakes Idaho. They were married in Ontario,Oregon in May of 1949. They eventually made their home in Parkdale. They raised two children, Patty and Ken on this orchard. They farmed the 60 plus acre orchard for many years retiring to the Odell area in 1987. Their son, Ken took over the orchard operation in 1978. In 2005, Ken and Nancy sold the Parkdale orchard and took over Alice’s Orchard & Fruit Stand, which was established with Ken’s sister, Patty and her husband, Rob, in 2001. Ken and Nancy have two children, Trista and Trevor.

Alice Bio
Alice Tamura was born in January in 1919 in Hood River, Oregon. She met and married John Ito at the Tule Lake, CA internment camp. In 1944, she and John joined Alice’s family at an orchard located in Ontario, Oregon. In 1948, Alice and John purchased a grocery store in Portland, Oregon. Alice and John owned various businesses during their years in Portland. They did not have children so they doted on their nieces and nephews. After John’s death, Alice moved back to Hood River to be near her family. In February of 2000 Alice passed away at the age of 81. Alice’s Orchard and Fruit Stand was named to honor a beloved “Auntie” and create a lasting memory of her life and heritage.

Ken & Nancy Tamura Bio
Ken and Nancy Tamura continue to operate an orchard enterprise virtually handed down from generation to generation. Together, with their children, Trista & Trevor, and Ken’s parents, George & Hisako, they have continued to grow the fruit stand portion of the orchard providing quality fruit to the community of Hood River and visitors from far and wide. The U-picking portion of the fruit stand continues to draw families to experience picking from our farm trees and enjoying the gorgeous views of Mt Hood and Mt Adams from the north and south. The orchard continues to be a family run business with Trista, her boyfriend, Greg Guenther, and Trevor coming home often to help with harvest and the fruit stand operations.
